According to the new report released by GWI (Download a free summary) , the average number of social media accounts per internet user hovers around 5.5.
As should be expected, the number of accounts that users actively use is lower than 5.5 with the global average coming in at 2.8.
Age plays a big role in the number of networks a user has as well as the number of accounts actively used. According to the report, 16-24 year olds have the highest number of accounts; however, 25-34 year-olds have the highest active usage rates. This higher active usage rate is attributed to this age groups loyalty to Facebook and use of professional networks such as LinkedIn.
What’s the takeaway?
Users don’t use just one social network. Multi-networking is the norm. Also, while 16-24 year olds might be the most visible users of social networks, 25-34 year olds are the most engaged.
